All heat pumps should have at least one filter-drier as they are a key facet of the refrigeration process that helps to make up the heat pump system.

There are two main roles of the filter-drier:

1. Absorb system contaminants such as water that can create acids as this helps the system last longer
2. Provide physical filtration

Filter-driers aren’t necessarily only replaced when broken. Whenever you replace a compressor, a TX valve or anytime the heat pump gets opened up, it is recommended you also change the filter-drier.
